      3/ Handlebar type

The Brompton historically came with a choice of four handlebar types:

      • Mid / M-type - this is the traditional Brompton style handlebar (it was re-modelled in 2017 to have a lower rise for improved stiffness - though a slightly increased stem height helps the overall height the same).
      • Low / S-type - this is a straight handlebar similar to that found on a mountain bike, to give a more sporty riding position.
      • High / H-type - this is the same shape as the M-type bar, but in conjunction with a longer stem gives a higher riding position - designed for the taller rider or those used to the European (Dutch / Swedish) riding position
      • P-type - now discontinued (since 2020) this was a multi-position style handlebars, especially useful for touring where you can benefit from taking different riding positions during long days in the saddle.

Note: The stem length on the frame is different for each type of handlebar - so it is not easy to change the handlebar type to a different one later

      4/ Gears

Historically, the Brompton folding bike came from the factory with a choice of one, two, three or six gears. The single speed was discontinued in 2021

The one and two speed rear wheel are actually the same - with different sprockets and chain tensioner

The two and six speed bikes use a Brompton specific derailleur

Three and six speed bikes use a 3 speed hub gear (though different on the three speed compared to the six speed). The six speed bike combines the derailleur and a wide ratio hub gear to give a total of six. The P Line uses a 4 speed derailleur system

      • 2 speed = Urban
      • 4 speed
      • 6 speed = Explore

      Notes:
1 speed C Line was discontinued with the 2022 model range
3 speed (utility) was discontinued with the 2023 model range - with the exception of the A Line

      5/ Front luggage

All Brompton come with lugs on the front ready for fitting a front carrier block. Brompton luggage is designed to easily click on and off of the front carrier block and comes in a wide variety of sizes and colours to suit your needs

Since the launch of the 2021 range - the front carrier block has been included as standard on the C Line (Core) range of bikes

      6/ Mudguards

With the introduction of the new range designation - all C Line bikes now come with mudguards

Previously the bike came with 3 options:
      a/ No mudguards
      b/ Mudguards only
      c/ Mudguards and rack
The mudguards provide very good protection from water on the road

      7/ Roller wheels

Roller wheels help the bike sit well and roll when folded. Larger roller wheel options are available

      8/ Tyres

Brompton folding bikescome from the factory with a  choice of tyres on the C Line:

      • Brompton Schwalbe Marathon Racer 16 x 1 1/3 - new for 2018
      • Schwalbe Marathon
      • Schwalbe Kojak - a lightweight racing tyre (folding tyre bead)

The P Line comes with a choice of the following:

      • Brompton Schwalbe One (when available)
      • Continental Contact Urban
      • Brompton Schwalbe Marathon Racer

      9/ Saddle

The bike comes with a choice of the following saddles from the Factory

      • Brompton standard - 147mm wide
      • Brompton wide - 167mm wide
      • Brooks B17 special mens (brown)
      • Brooks B17 special short / ladies (brown)

Since the pandemic starting in 2020 there has been a saddle shortage and the above saddles were sometimes replaced with Fizik or Brooks Cambium saddles

      10/ Seat height

There is a choice of three seat heights:

      • Standard - for those with an inside leg of up to 33 inches
      • Extended (an extra 6cm longer) for riders with an inside leg of up to 35 inches
      • Telescopic (two parts which slide into each other) for very tall riders - this is at an extra cost

      11/ Suspension

Until 2018, the rear suspension block came in standard (for riders up to 70kg) and firm for heavier riders or those just wanting a firmer ride
From 2018 onwards there is just the one suspension block - equivalent to the old firm/hard susension block

      12/ Reflectors/Lighting

As standard the bike comes with front and rear reflectors
A hub dynamo system is also available, the older Shimano or SON front wheel powered hub dynamos are about to be replaced (for 2019 model bikes) with a new hub dynamo system
Front and rear battery lights with Brompton specific mountings (so as not to interfere with the fold) are also available - there is a CatEye Volt 400 for the front and a choice of saddle mounted CatEye (requires one of the newer saddles with fixing points) and Spanninga rear light

So we can ensure that you get the right bike for you - Brompton bikes are not normally available for shipping - only for collection from our Chobham shop

      * Home delivery

      We offer this check free-of-charge

We have a range of videos showing features and maintenance tips for Brompton folding bikes on our youtube channel

    • Brompton Electric...

We can now ship / deliver Brompton Electric bikes to UK mainland addresses!

From Brompton - the definitive folding bicycle company, comes a new bike - the Brompton Electric - the most compact folding E-bike on the market. So now if you want an electric bike that folds, you no longer need to find and install a Brompton Electric compatible kit - you can get an actual Brompton Electric.

OK I'm sold already - how long will it take to get one?

The current lead time at Brompton is approximately 9 weeks - they are popular, demand is great so there is a backlog.
We try and keep a good stock and luckily we have more Brompton Electric bikes on order and coming soon!

Can my current Brompton folding bike be made electric?

      Short answer: No

      • The Brompton Electric is a complete electric bike - some of the components are strengthened to allow for the extra weight / torque generated by the bike (for example the front forks)

An electric bike that folds - meet the Brompton Electric

The front wheel has an electric motor developed with Williams - the Formula 1 company. It is powered by a battery in the front luggage, which simply unclips from the bike for storage / charging

Like the classic Brompton it folds to a compact size so you can store under your desk when at work or without taking up too much space on your private jet!

Designed so that you will arrive at your destination quickly and easily (and not sweaty!)

Why not come and take a test ride at our shop in Chobham, Surrey, England?

      Brompton Electric Options:

There are not so many combinations of colour / gearing / handlebars / mudguards with the Brompton Electric as with the standard Brompton range - so the choice will be easier as there is a choice of 8 bikes in total (though of course you can choose an additional bag / seat post height / saddle width or toolkit - we can take care of that at pickup time)

      Colours:

The Brompton Electric folding bike was originally available in two colours:

      • Black
      • White

then a third colour was introduced in 2020, with a premium lacquer finish

      • Bolt Blue Lacquer finish

a new colour was introduced in 2021, and the white discontinued - so for 2021 the colour range is:

      • Black
      • Bolt Blue
      • Turkish Green

All three colours had black detailing (cranks / rims / hubs / handlebars / seat post etc) and an electric blue logo / decal

      2022 model colours

in 2022 the Bolt Blue premium finish has been discontinued - time will tell if it returns, and replaced by flame lacquer and black lacquer - Bothe very popular finishes on the manual Brompton - so for 2022 we have

      • Black
      • Turkish Green
      • Black Lacquer
      • Flame Lacquer

      2023 C Line model colours

In 2023 the Turkish Green colour was discontinued and cloud blue, house red and fire coral (all the C line manual colours) were added - there was even the seasonal colour Bumblebee Yellow available for a short time

      2024 C Line model colours

In 2023 the House Red, Cloud Blue and Fire Coral colours were discontinued and Dune Sand, Yuzu Lime and Ocean Blue colours added - so for 2023 we have:

      • Black
      • Black Lacquer
      • Flame Lacquer
      • Dune Sand
      • Yuzu Lime
      • Ocean Blue

      Bag / battery

The battery for the Brompton electric is stored in a removable bag. There are two bags available

      • Small - for carrying essentials such as phone and keys or a battery charger - this is the standard bag
      • Large - for carrying a change of clothes / water bottle etc - this is available at an extra cost

Both bags have access to a USB port on the battery so you can charge your mobile phone while riding

      Gearing

The Brompton Electric folding bike has less gear choices than the standard Brompton

      • 2 speed - using Bromptons 2 speed derailleur system
      • 6 speed - using a Sturmey Archer BWR wide ratio rear wheel in conjunction with Bromptons 2 speed derailleur system

With the powerful Williams developed 250W motor you will probably only need 2 gears (saving a bit of weight) unless you live in a very hilly area

      Charger

The Brompton Electric has two available chargers

      • 2A charger - this is the standard charger and takes approx. 4.5 hours to fully charge the battery
      • 4A / fast charge charger - this is an optional extra but reduces the charge time to approx 2.5 hours. This can be useful if you are out doing a long ride which include stops (for lunch etc)

Spare chargers are available in our Brompton Electric spare parts and accessories section - so why not keep one at home and one at work (just in case you get caught short)

    • Commencal Bikes

      Commencal Bikes

    • Frog Kids Bikes

Lightweight bikes for kids - from Frog

We keep - in stock - a complete range of Frog lightweight bicycles and balance bikes for children / kids / young adults

A local (to us) husband and wife wanted their children to enjoy cycling - but were frustrated that the majority of childrens bikes were either too heavy or poor build quality, so they decided they could do better and founded Frog

Frog are now going from strength to strength (and the ones we have sold are loved by their riders - in fact they don't like letting us have them back for the free 6 week checkup!)

Assembly the Frog bikes has recently been moved from the far east to Wales - bringing more jobs to the UK

The bikes also hold their value remarkably well - often listed on e-bay second hand at nearly new bike prices

We aim to keep one of each size in our Chobham shop (in various colours so that we can show the different colours and help you size your childs bike) - we also keep a stock ready for building at short notice

What does the number mean (e.g. Frog 62, Frog 55)

The number on the Frog bikes describes the size - measured by inside leg measurement (e.g. Frog 48 refers to an inside leg of 48 cm). Frog base their sizing based on this rather than wheel size (there are often a couple of bikes in each wheel size but with different frame sizes - so you can find the perfect fit

The smallest in the range are called the Tadpole - these are balance bikes, so no pedals - for your child to learn balance (as the name balance bike implies) by running along while sitting on the saddle - then taking their feet off the ground as confidence grows - they have just one (rear) brake

There are three first ride bicycles - the Frog 40 (this replaced the Frog 43), 48 and 52SS, which allow the child to concentrate on pedalling and have just one speed (so no need to worry about trying to co-ordinate gears and pedalling at the same time. We often find that to start, its better to remove the pedals and use as a balance bike - even for just the first day or so (this generally works better than stabilisers as it doesn't build a reliance)

Then there are the Frog hybrid bikes - 52 all the way up to 78 (based on inside leg). These have a single front chain ring (for simplicity and lightness) and non-suspension front forks (again, to save weight). They are equally capable off and on road

    • Intense Cycles

The INTENSE story is one of passion, innovation and creativity.

Back in the early 1990’s a young thrill-seeker from Ohio decided to head out west to chase his Californian dream… that person was INTENSE founder and still CEO Jeff Steber.

Designer, artist and craftsman, with a hands-on approach and a drive to make things better.

In those early days Jeff sculpted and welded aluminum frames in his garage. These bikes would go on to set the competitive bicycle world on fire.

The legendary M1 and racing success was soon to follow, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Today Intense offer the following mountain bikes

      • Intense M1 - downhill mountain bike - coming soon
      • Intense Tracer - Enduro
      • Intense Primer - Trail
      • Intense Sniper - Cross Country
      • Intense Taser - eMTB
    • Intense Spares

Spare parts for your Intense bike

Bearings, top and bottom links, axles, derailleur hangers, dropouts and more - the stuff you need to keep your Intense bike in top condition

We're happy to be stocking Intense spare parts again and even some demo bikes (by appointment only)

If there is something you are after which either shows as "not available" or you can't find - let us know - click on Email us in the top right of this web page, and we will try and help

    • Orbea Bikes

Orbea have been making bikes in the Basque region of Spain since the 1930's

We're really happy to be riding / stocking / selling them since 2017 :-)

There is a complete collection of bikes available for all riding styles - for Road, Gravel, Mountain, Leisure / City and Kids

You can even design your own specification and colours, for delivery to us (click and collect - where we do the pre delivery setup/inspection so you don't have to stress about it)

      Orbea doesn’t make women’s bicycles....

they make bikes that women ride!

The women of UHC Pro Cycling Team win on the same Orbeas raced in the Tour de France by the men of Team Cofdis.

Two-time XC World Champion Catherine Pendrel of the CLIF Pro Team has never requested a woman’s bike, she instead demands we design the best mountain bikes on the market.

    • Pashley Bicycles and...

Pashley - bikes, spare parts and accessories

From the moment William 'Rath' Pashley founded Pashley over 80 years ago, Pashley has embraced the needs and aspirations of its customers and translated these into what has become a unique range of cycles.

Pashley Bicycles are still hand-built in Stratford-upon-Avon, England

    • Reise and Muller Birdy...

The Riese and Muller Birdy. Supremely functional.

The Reise and Muller Birdy is like a Swiss pocket knife that you can mount and ride away on. Tucked away, it might not fit in every trouser pocket perhaps, but it certainly will fit in a car boot, under your desk and any form of public transport.

When it's needed, it simply opens out / unfolds

Great for leisure,  holidays or for day-to-day commuting.

It doesn't take much longer to open up than a pocket knife either. Its cleverly thought-out frame without hinge joint in the main frame and the adapted ratio range deliver a riding experience just like any normal bike. The full suspension surpasses even its riding safety and comfort. Regular bikes had better watch out.
