These are the new (introduced in 2017) model brake levers with facility to add integrated bell and gear trigger / shifters (in the picture you can see at the top of the lever - two mounting holes)
Note: Standard Brompton (non black-edition) bikes from the factory come with silver brake levers (with a bit of black)
These brake levers are compatible with non integrated gear shifters / triggers too - they can be updated later if required.
Some Brompton brake lever history: These black edition levers only became available as a spare part (as opposed to on factory built BLACK edition bikes in 2017) In 2016 (for the 2017 model), Brompton upgrdaded the brake levers again - this time as an integrated brake lever. This means that gear triggers/shifters and bell can be mounted directly to the brake levers - saving space on the handlebars. In 2013 Brompton upgraded to aluminium levers (giving better braking performance due to less flex) with a new more modern shape. Prior to 2013, Brompton brake levers were known as 10 degree or 30 degree levers. This was based on the exit angle of the cable. Different levers were initially fitted to different handlebar types - then eventually 30 degree levers were fitted to all bikes before being replaced by the aluminium ones. The early brake levers were constructed of nylon with a metal lever - this lead to some flexibility and reduced braking power. |
These are based on the new integrated aluminium levers, introduced by Brompton on the 2017 model - just black instead of silver!
Please note - these require the 2013 onwards brake cables - please see the document in the "download" tab.
Note: If you have the old 10 degree brake levers or older cables with the large nipple (see document in the download tab), then the cables should also be changed.

My 2002 T3 original brake levers were well squeezed over time and a bit fisher price now I compare them with these beauties and £5 cheaper than the same in silver
