Each year (maybe once, or maybe twice) - Brompton release some special editions - including this Non Streets edition
It is to mark the start of the 2019 model bikes and comes complete with a lot of black detailing not included on the standard bikes including spokes, brakes, hubs, handlebars, seat post, cranks and pedals
Why is it called the Nine Streets?
This special edition was originally launched in 2017 to celebrate the opening of the Brompton Junction Amsterdam.
The Nine Streets bikes are painted in the never before seen, special fade finish.
The effect is a special fade finish of Red and Blue lacquer which is created using a hand sprayed. The process leaves a unique finish on each Nine Streets bike, meaning no 2 bikes are the same.
1. Frame
Regular - all steel
Folded size: 585mm wide x 565mm tall by 270mm deep
2. Colour
Main frame: Red fading / transforming to Blue - gloss lacquer finish
Extremities: Blue front / Rear rear
Decal: White
The brakes are the new 2018 onwards black colour - the same style of calliper is used on both the front and the rear of the bike
3. Handlebars
2017 onwards low-rise style M-type - the classic Brompton shape offering a comfortable ride - black bars
Handlebar grips: Lock on 130mm grips - new 2018 onwards version (these replaced the foam grips which had been more or less unchanged on Brompton since their inception). They make changing (should you wish to do so) a lot easier as they are held on with a locking nut rather than adhesive glue
4. Gears / drivechain
6 speed BWR (Brompton Wide Ratio) internal hub gear - black hub - equipped rear wheel plus 2 speed derailleur system (giving 6 gears in total)
Derailleur chain tensioner
50T front chainring (black instead of silver)
100 link Brompton / SRAM chain with powerlink
Folding left hand pedal - black
Non-folding right hand pedal - black
13/16T rear sprockets
New 2017 onwards style gear shifters (left and right) - black
5. Front luggage system
Mounting lugs for future fitting of a Front carrier block
6. Mudguards
Front and rear mudguards for all weather riding / commuting - black
7. Roller wheels
Standard roller wheels help keep the bike stable when folded
8. Tyres / Wheels
Schwalbe Marathon Racer 16 x 1.35 tyres with reflective sidewall to help make you more visible to cars when riding in the dark
Low rolling resistance and good puncture protection
16 inch (ETRTO size 349) wheels with double wall rim and 28 spokes - for the black edition, the wheels have black hubs, black spokes and black rims (the braking surface is still silver)
Schrader / car type 8mm valve
9. Saddle
Standard black Brompton saddle
10. Seat height
Standard seatpost for riders with an inside leg measurement of up to 33 inches
(If you are taller - up to 35 inch inside leg - then an extended length seatpost can be fitted at no extra cost)
For very tall riders a telescopic seatpost is available at extra cost
Black seatpost
11. Suspension
2018 onwards standard suspension block (equivalent to the older "firm" model)
12. Lighting / reflectors
The Nine Streets edition comes complete with a Shimano dynamo lighting system
