We try and publish at least one Brompton related video a week
Failed at the joint between tube and valve
Only about 2 months after fitting, after being pumped up just twice, it started slowly deflating, through a microscopic hole at the join between valve and tube. I was surprised it didn’t come with a lock ring (like the Schwalbe ones have) to stabilise this area. I have a photo…
A great addition to a Brompton
I never had an issue with the normal folding ones but like a larger pedal. They are great and I feel much more stable on them. I was concerned the lack of metal pins would be an issue. It hasn't proved to be. They grip well enough. The only irritating feature is that the detachable one has a hexagonal end to it which mounts in a corresponding recessed hexagonal hole. It can take a lot of attempts to get it to seat as both have to line up. That seams a bit of a design flaw as you can't see the socket to line it up. I have put 3 stars for value as when all said and done these are plastic pedals. I was lucky as I got them when they were much cheaper.
Good Tyre, confidence dented due to side wall/ bead failer
Loved these tyres swapping from old Brompton etc as much easier to fit and rolling/ puncture resistance and weight. Still not sure what caused the massive 50mm failure I had on rear wheel but failed just above rim bead and showed thinning further round. Been using on Rollers and when failed on mucky trails (Camel), Pressures were fin and blocks not rubbing. Done plenty of miles on this and my E Brompton with Urbans on poor roads. Checked my other tyres and seemed ok, may try the wired rims next time as this failure was too much needing a walk back!
Does the business, but a nightmare to fit.
As far as I'm aware, these are the only show in town if you want Brompton-sized studded tyres.
They certainly do the job, and unless you live in seriously icy conditions it's only really necessary to fit one on the front to stop the steering from washing out.
Obviously there's a weight penalty and you'll sound like you're riding over a bag of crisps, but they do grip pretty well, even at 100psi.
The downside are an obvious weight penalty (granted, not that noticeable on my C-Line as it's already a bit porky) and they're a nightmare to fit. You _will_ need the aid of a tyre lever or two unless you're blessed with thumbs of steel.
For best results, run them at a slightly reduced pressure (70-80psi) for the first few rides in order to get the studs properly bedded in.
5 speed conversion
Recently converted my 15 year old 3 speed with this kit.
Went from 3 gears with 50 front cog . To 5 gears with 44 front cog ( 14 rear ).
Super happy with the results .
So much of what I took to be limitations of Bromptons , turned out to be , limitations of too few gears . And being
Too highly geared.
