Introduced and used as standard on the Brompton T Line folding bike - 30mm BSA bottom bracket cups from FSA
Note: If fitting to a Brompton steel frame, ensure that the bottom bracket shell (where the Bottom bracket screws into) is faced (made level) and re-tapped (the thread) before fitting
If you are unsure - please consult a Brompton dealer
These come as standard with the Brompton super light crank set
Made for Brompton by FSA (Full Speed Ahead)
Tools RequiredFor removal / installation bottom brackets, you will need a special tool: The Park Tool version of the FSA MegaEvo socket tool - can be found here (it's the Park Tool BBT-27.3). You should use the correct tools to avoid damaging the bottom bracket cups. There is a specific cup for each side of the bottom bracket - marked L and R |
Grease both bottom bracket cups before installing with a good quality grease (this will make future removal easier and help prevent water getting into the bottom bracket shell)
Tighten to 40-50Nm (that is tight) using the correct MegaEvo socket tool and preferably a torque wrench. Ensure that the tool is properly engaged so that it doesn't slip
Before removing the bottom bracket from your Brompton, you will also need to remove the crank arms (this whole process will be easier if you have a workstand)
Once the crankset has been removed use the correct FSA MegaEvo socket tool to remove the bottom bracket cups
The left side (as you sit on it) needs to be turned anti-clockwise to remove
The right side (as you sit on it) needs to be turned clockwise to remove
They may be very stiff!
Make sure the tool is engaged properly to prevent it slipping
