From Brompton - the definitive folding bicycle company, comes a new bike - the Brompton Electric - the most compact folding E-bike on the market. So now if you want an electric bike that folds, you no longer need to find and install a Brompton Electric compatible kit - you can get an actual Brompton Electric. 

OK I'm sold already - how long will it take to get one?

The current lead time at Brompton is approximately 9 weeks - they are popular, demand is great so there is a backlog.
We try and keep a good stock and luckily we have more Brompton Electric bikes on order and coming soon!

Can my current Brompton folding bike be made electric?

Short answer: No

  • The Brompton Electric is a complete electric bike - some of the components are strengthened to allow for the extra weight / torque generated by the bike (for example the front forks)

An electric bike that folds - meet the Brompton Electric

The front wheel has an electric motor developed with Williams - the Formula 1 company. It is powered by a battery in the front luggage, which simply unclips from the bike for storage / charging

Like the classic Brompton it folds to a compact size so you can store under your desk when at work or without taking up too much space on your private jet!

Designed so that you will arrive at your destination quickly and easily (and not sweaty!)

Brompton Electric Options:

There are not so many combinations of colour / gearing / handlebars / mudguards with the Brompton Electric as with the standard Brompton range - so the choice will be easier as there is a choice of 8 bikes in total (though of course you can choose an additional bag / seat post height / saddle width or toolkit - we can take care of that at pickup time)

Colours:

The Brompton Electric folding bike was originally available in two colours:

  • Black
  • White

then a third colour was introduced in 2020, with a premium lacquer finish

  • Bolt Blue Lacquer finish

a new colour was introduced in 2021, and the white discontinued - so for 2021 the colour range is:

  • Black
  • Bolt Blue
  • Turkish Green

All three colours had black detailing (cranks / rims / hubs / handlebars / seat post etc) and an electric blue logo / decal

2022 model colours

in 2022 the Bolt Blue premium finish has been discontinued - time will tell if it returns, and replaced by flame lacquer and black lacquer - Bothe very popular finishes on the manual Brompton - so for 2022 we have

  • Black
  • Turkish Green
  • Black Lacquer
  • Flame Lacquer

2023 C Line model colours

In 2023 the Turkish Green colour was discontinued and cloud blue, house red and fire coral (all the C line manual colours) were added - there was even the seasonal colour Bumblebee Yellow available for a short time

2024 C Line model colours

In 2023 the House Red, Cloud Blue and Fire Coral colours were discontinued and Dune Sand, Yuzu Lime and Ocean Blue colours added - so for 2023 we have:

  • Black 
  • Black Lacquer
  • Flame Lacquer
  • Dune Sand
  • Yuzu Lime
  • Ocean Blue

2025 C Line Electric model colours

In 2024 the colour range was reduced to four colours - with an extra colour in spring 2025

  • Bolt Blue Lacquer
  • Bronze Sky
  • Lunar Ice
  • Midnight Black Metallic
  • Amethyst Lacquer

Bag

The battery for the Brompton electric is stored in a removable bag. There are two bags available

  • Small - for carrying essentials such as phone and keys or a battery charger - this is the standard bag
  • Large - for carrying a change of clothes / water bottle etc - this is available at an extra cost

Both bags have access to a USB port on the battery so you can charge your mobile phone while riding

Battery

Until 2025 the P Line (and C Line) used a battery made by BMZ. In 2025 a new Greenway battery (as used on the G Line) was introduced to meet even higher safety standards. This battery uses a slightly different frame from the original battery and a different frame from the G Line

Gearing

The Brompton Electric folding bike has less gear choices than the standard Brompton

Originally it was available as:

  • 2-speed - using the Brompton 2-speed derailleur system
  • 6-speed - using a Sturmey Archer BWR wide ratio rear wheel in conjunction with Bromptons 2 speed derailleur system

For the P Line it is available as:

  • 4-speed - using the Brompton 4-speed derailleur system
  • 12-speed - using a combination of the new Brompton Sturmey Archer 3-speed wheel along side the 4-speed derailleur system

With the powerful Williams developed 250W motor you will probably only need 2 gears (saving a bit of weight) unless you live in a very hilly area

Charger

The Brompton Electric had two available chargers

  • 2A charger - this is the standard charger and takes approx. 4.5 hours to fully charge the battery
  • 4A / fast charge charger - this is an optional extra but reduces the charge time to approx 2.5 hours. This can be useful if you are out doing a long ride which include stops (for lunch etc) - this one was discontinued in 2025

Spare chargers are available in our Brompton Electric spare parts and accessories section - so why not keep one at home and one at work (just in case you get caught short)

    Brompton Electric C Line folding bikes

    The Brompton Electric C Line is the "Core" range of Brompton bikes. For 2025 there are now two gearing options:

    • 4-speed
    • 12-speed

    Replacing the previous two gearing option choices:

    • Urban - 2-speed
    • Explore - 6-speed

    All C Line Brompton Electric folding bikes come with the following standard equipment 

    • Mudguards front and rear
    • Front carrier block and small bag for carrying luggage on the front of the Brompton

    The C Line Electric is available in 2 handlebar types / handlebar ride heights

    • Mid - this is the classic Brompton handlebar type previously known as the M-type
    • High - this has the same shape bars as the Mid but with a slightly longer stem to give a more upright riding position as popular in The Netherlands / Germany and the Nordic countries. This handlebar type is also good for very tall riders who do't want to lean forwards too much when riding

    The C Line Electric comes as standard with a choice of 3 seat post heights

    • Standard - for riders with up to a 31 inch inside leg
    • Extended - for slightly taller riders with an inside leg up to 35 inches
    • Telescopic - for very tall riders
    • We also offer a shorter (6cm shorter than the standard) seat post for very short riders

    The C Line Electric comes in a range of colours - for 2025 these are:

    • Black
    • Bumblebee Yellow
    • Dune Sand
    • Gloss Black Lacquer (premium finish)=

    All of which have a black rear triangle / handlebar stem and forks

    Brompton G Line Electric folding bikes

    The Brompton G Line is the new (for 2024) 20 inch wheel size Brompton folding bike - it has the following features

    • 4 speed derailleur gearing system
    • Hydraulic disc brakes
    • Higher volume tyres - the Schwalbe G One version can be setup as tubeless

    All G Line Brompton Electric folding bikes come with the following standard equipment

    • Front carrier block for carrying luggage on the front of the Brompton

    The Brompton G Line Electric is available in 3 sizes

    • Small - recommended for rider height of 5 ft to 5 ft 6 in (with a standard length seat post)
    • Medium - recommended for rider height of 5 ft 6 in to 6 ft (with an extended length seat post)
    • Large - recommended for rider height of 6 ft to 6ft 6 in (with a telescopic seat post)

    The G Line Electric comes in a choice of four colours for model year 2026 - at launch in autumn 2024 there were:

    • Adventure Orange
    • Forest Green
    • Traildust White

    Added in the autumn of 2025 is a new G Line colour:

    • Space Black

    Brompton P Line Electric Folding Bikes

    The Brompton Electric P Line is the "Performance" range of Brompton bikes. For 2025 there are now two gearing options:

    • 4-speed
    • 12-speed

    All P Line Brompton Electric folding bikes come with the following equipment additional to the C Line 

    • Titanium rear triangle to save weight
    • Superlight removable (one side) pedals
    • Superlight saddle
    • Superlight pentaclip

    The Brompton P Line Electric is available in 2 handlebar types / handlebar ride heights

    • Mid - this is the classic Brompton handlebar type previously known as the M-type
    • High - this has the same shape bars as the Mid but with a slightly longer stem to give a more upright riding position as popular in The Netherlands / Germany and the Nordic countries. This handlebar type is also good for very tall riders who do't want to lean forwards too much when riding

    Brompton T Line Electric Folding Bikes

    The Brompton Electric T Line is the "all Titanium" range of Brompton bikes

    The T Line Electric is new for 2026 (introduced in autumn 2025)

    It is available in two gearing options:

    • 1-speed
    • 4-speed

    It uses the new rear wheel motor and Greenway battery

    The Brompton T Line Electric is available in 2 handlebar types / handlebar ride heights

    • Mid - this is the classic Brompton handlebar type previously known as the M-type
    • Low - a lower / sportier riding position

    Unlike earlier models of the Brompton (now known as the C Line / P Line) it is easy to change from mid to low or low to mid bars (as they use the same stem)

    The T Line Electric comes as standard with a choice of 3 seat post heights

    • Standard carbon - for riders with up to a 31 inch inside leg
    • Extended carbon - for slightly taller riders with an inside leg up to 35 inches
