Brompton wheels

Here's where you can find the wheels for your Brompton folding bike - we have added some filters to help finding the right one a bit easier

What is the Brompton wheel size?

Although the Brompton wheel is normally described as 16 inch it should more correctly be called ETRTO 349 (European Tyre and Rim Technical Organisation sizing)

Just for reference: Some other wheels of smaller sizes such as those on a Moulton are also referred to as 16 inch but have a different diameter - made up for with bigger tyre depth

Front wheels

Standard front wheels with 28 holes are available in:

• Black (with a silver braking surface)
• Silver 

Extra light front wheels (as originally supplied with the Brompton superlight bikes) use a hollow bolt through axle to save a bit of weight and are available in:

• Black
• Silver

Hub dynamo font wheels

• Brompton currently use the SP SV-8 front dynamo wheel
• The Shimano and SON dynamo front wheels were discontinued bt Brompton in 2018

The SP SV8 wheel is available as a wheel only or part of a dynamo kit, has 28 spokes and is available in

• Black
• Silver

The latest wheel is the Brompton advance front wheel - with a new hub and 20 spokes. It is only available in black but in two rim choices

• T Line / Alex / aero rim with a 6mm presta / racing type valve hole
• P Line / C Line / Ryde rim with an 8mm Schrader / car type valve hole

Rear wheels

The Brompton C Line / older model 1 speed and 2 speed bikes use the same rear wheel - with 28 holes - it’s available in:

• Black
• Silver

the one speed using one sprocket while the two speed uses two sprockets and a derailleur.

The Brompton C Line / A line / B75 / Older model 3 speed bikes use one of two wheels:

• SACHS / SRAM 3 speed - long since discontinued
• Brompton Sturmey Archer standard ratio wheel

The Brompton Sturmey Archer BSR / standard ratio is available in:

• Silver

The Brompton C Line / older model 6 speed bikes use a different wheel to the three speed though similar:

• SACHS / SRAM 6 speed - discontinued
• Brompton  Sturmey Archer BWR - Brompton Wide Ratio - hub / wheel with two sprockets - it can also run a single sprocket to make a wide ratio three speed 

The Brompton BWR wheel is available in two colours:

• Black
• Silver

The sprockets used on the BWR and BSR hubs are not compatible with each other

Along with the T Line and P Line came new rear wheels:

• Brompton advance T Line 4 speed rear wheel with aero rim and 6mm presta valve hole
• Brompton advance P Line 4 speed rear wheel with C Line style rim and 8mm Schrader valve hole
• Brompton T Line 12 speed rear wheel
