Please Note: Incorrect use could damage your Brompton frame - if in doubt use your local Brompton dealer

The seat sleeve on the T line Brompton may need replacing if the seat post is slipping, it could be worn and need replacing

The kit contains the following:

  • A T line Mandrel
  • A T Line spacing block
  • A T Line Aligner

Does not include - glue, seat sleeve or a reaming tool

The following steps will need to be carried out:

1 - Removing the seat sleeve:

  • First remove the saddle and pentaclip
  • Unfold the bike
  • Undo the seat clamp to allow the seat post to be removed from the bottom of the frame

2 - Removing the existing sleeve

  • Insert the flared end (bottom) of the seat post to the underside of the seat tube until it contacts teh sleeve.
  • Gently knock the bottom with a plastic mallet or hammer until the seat sleeve detaches
  • Clean the inside of the seat sleeve to remove any traces of seat sleeve or adhesive
  • Check for any signs of cracks

3 - Fitting the new seat sleeve

  • The replacement seat sleeve should be glued in place using cyanoacrylate glue - this should be applied to the raised surfaces of the seat sleeve
  • Do not use excessive amounts and wear gloves!
  • Carefully insert the seat sleeve into the seat post - wipe away any excess glue using a cloth
  • When aligned correctly yuo should hear a click when the upstanding key aligns with the corresponding hole in the seat tube
  • Push the mandrel into the frame and close the seat clamp lever to apply pressure - this ensures an even spread of adhesive
  • The mandrel should be left in place for 20 - 30 minutes to allow the glue to set

4 - Reaming the seat sleeve

  • Once the glue has dried, unclamp teh seat post and remove the mandrel
  • Use the spacing block to check that the seat post clamp is tight enough to hold the spacing block in place
  • Turn the bike upside down
  • It is easier to remove the drive side crank arm - this is not essential
  • The T Line aligner should be inserted into the bottom bracket and sit in the seat tube
  • The reaming tool can now be inserted into the seat tube
  • Using an 8mm Allen/ hex key rotate the reamer clockwise while applying pressure downwards, until the reamer has passed through the end of the seat tube
  • Continue to turn the reamer clockwise while slowly removing it from the seat tube - at no stage should the reamer be turned anti-clockwise!
  • Once removed ensure there are no plastic shavings

5 - Re-fit the seat post

  • Re-fit the seat post
  • Ensure it moves smoothly
  • Ensure the seat clamp is adjusted correctly
  • Re-fit the saddle and pentaclip
