OK - so in the UK a bell is required to be on a brand new bicycle when sold.
But it is not actually required by law on a bicycle.
Bear in mind though, that if you take your Brompton abroad (including Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man) then a bell is a legal requirement.
It can also be useful to help reduce the shock to others sharing your trail as you approach.

Much improved bell from Brompton
I was pleasantly surprised when I received the new bell from Brompton. They have greatly improved the design and might even last longer than the previous bell that managed 7 years.
