This light was discontinued by Brompton in 2023 - for 2024 there is the replacement VIZ 150 with saddle mount
Brompton / CatEye Rapid Mini USB rechargeable saddle mounted rear light - including mounting bracket and recharging cable
In the middle of 2016, Brompton changed the design of their saddle. The stitching was removed to reduce chaffing and a small hole appeared underneath - ready for mounting a rear light.
Note: Brompton saddles made before mid-late 2016 time do not have the mount point and are not compatible with this light. You need the 2017 onwards model saddle for this light! |
New (for end of 2016) Brompton, in conjunction with CatEye launched this saddle mounted rear light kit:
The Brompton / CatEye Rapid Mini has the following modes:
* Note: run times are approximate
Also useful as a running light in daytime - making you more visible
The battery is charged using a USB cable (included) - accessed by lifting the red cover on the side of the light. When charging, the power button will be illuminated - this will go off when fully charged.
Fully charge the light before first use.
Charging time is approx. 2 hours
Here's a short video which includes how how light fits to the saddle, an alternative mount and the lighting modes

Insecure fixing... also, Battery self discharges.
I have had two of these lights, which are bright and run for a good long time on the flashing setting. However the light falls off far too easily, and gets lost, even when you know about the problem, and when you ARE taking care!
My second copy of this light has also developed a fault. It now does not hold its charge, meaning the light will not operate if left unused for a few days/one week. This has happened after fewer than 8 recharges , approx 10 months usage.
Very good light but it falls off
Lost mine after 3 weeks of use. The mount is very poor, it's a pity because I really liked the light.
Style over substance
Just lost my first one of these. Ironically have heard it fall off (last time was three days ago), so was able to retrieve, but this is a poor piece of craftsmanship.
Take care - easily lost! Very disappointed.
I'll start by saying that the light is excellent. However the saddle fitment and how the light clips on is rubbish. I have lost my light after using just 3 times!! The usual Brompton quality does not apply here - I am surprised they recommend it. Certainly £20 for 3 rides is extremely expensive :-(
Brompton / CatEye saddle mounted rear light
Protrudes too far and clip is flimsy - easily falls off when folded on the train. Needs to be secured with strong rubber band. Have lost two in 4 months. Won't be buying another.
You will have it for a while
As did I.. Very fragile connection.. You will lost it while folding the bike.. Otherwise good light..
Not well designed
The light protrudes too far beyond the end ot the saddle and doesn't sit firmly enough in its mountingso is easy to knock off the bike. The USB charging is a gimmick and unnecessary - batteries are fine and allow longer life. I've replaced it with my old Cateye 5 LED light which sits about flush with the rear of the saddle. It would be better if the mounting were sold as a separate item.
