Adding a rear mudguard from scratch? |
If you are trying to add a complete rear mudguard to a bike which doesn't currently have one then you can do it by also adding all of the following item:
QMGSRSET - Rear mudguard stay set (three stays which connect using the QMGSTAP the frame - at the wheel nuts to the mudguard) - of course, if you want to save a couple of grams you can go for the titanium version (QMGSRSET-TI)
Included in the mudguard stay set (this wasn't always the case) are:
QMGSTAP - Mudguard stay anchor plates (clamps the front stay to the mudguard)
QMGROLA - Rear mudguard roller assembly (which connects the two rear stays to the mudguard and allows the bike to be rolled when folded)
Full fitting instructions are included - and if you would like to see them in advance, please click on our "contact us" page.
Colour: The old mudguard was solid silver in colour. The newer model is silver with two clear stripes (which appear to be black when viewed from above due to the tyre / dirt on the inside of the mudguard)
The older version of the Brompton mudguard had the rear flap held on with a nut and bolt. This sometimes worked loose, meaning that the flap could fall off. This version has a riveted mudguard flap.
We made this short video on how to install the rear mudguard - then tested it with some puddles and white trousers to show how effective it is

Replacing a damaged mudguard :(
It's a bit fiddly to change but straight forward. You need to move all of the components from the old mudguard to the new.
I lost a bloody allen screw but I had some spare so be careful.
So thanks to Brilliant bikes I was able to replace my rear mudguard at a good price :)
