Two speed to six speed Brompton upgrade kit

Upgrade your two speed Brompton to six speed with our kit of Brompton parts

Note: Fitting of this kit will take some patience and mechanical knowledge

Since the introduction of the Brompton BLACK edition - this kit is now available in silver or black - this refers to the colour of the 3 speed BWR rear wheel

With you in 3-5 working days

All the genuine Brompton parts required, including a Brompton/Sturmey Archer BWR (Brompton Wide ratio) rear wheel and cables etc.

Suitable for all Brompton handlebar types

Brompton 2 to 6 speed upgrade kit contents:

  • 1 x Rear wheel (double wall rim) with 3 speed Sturmey Archer hub - QRW3SS-BWR
  • 1 x Rim tape for double wall rim - QRIMTAPE-DW
  • 1 x Indicator chain - QGICH3-SA
  • 1 x Axle fittings for Sturmey Archer hub / wheel - QRW3NB-SA
  • 1 x 3 speed gear cable (M/P/S/H type) - QGCAB3A-M/P/S/H (Please state type)
  • 1 x Gear cable pulley - QCPULA
  • 1 x Cable anchor - QGCABANC-SA
  • 1 x Brompton 3 speed gear trigger - QGTRIGB3A
  • 1 x Sprocket set for 6 speed BWR - QRSPRSTACK-BWR6

2 to 6 speed Brompton upgrade instructions:

Step 1 - Check that you have all of the components as listed above
Step 2 - Prepare the new rear wheel

Install the rim tape

Install an inner tube and tyre (don't inflate the tyre yet as it's easier to install on the bike while deflated)

Install the sprocket set

Step 3 - Install the new rear wheel

Remove the old two - speed rear wheel

Install the new 3/6 speed wheel - this step will allow you to continue to use the bike as a 2 speed (although slightly heavier and in a higher gearing) - and you can go back to this if having any issues trying to figure out how the 3 speed mechanism works

Remove the gear indicator chain and keep safe

We also do this to quickly switch between 2 and 6 speeds when travelling (we sometimes want a 2 speed for lighter bike)

Step 4 - Install the 3 speed controls

You can install the 3 speed trigger, cable, gear cable pulley and cable anchor without connecting it - the bike will continue to run as a 2 speed with the new wheel

We velcro the cable anchor to the rear frame to keep it safe / from interfering with anything it shouldn't

Step 5 - Connect up the rear wheel

Insert the gear indicator chain

Connect the cable anchor to the gear indicator chain and adjust

Step 6 - Test ride

Note:
Some instructions are included (with the wheel) - but you will need some mechanical / technical knowledge to do the upgrade. If you want to check out in advance, please contact us by clicking here

Hello, Can you guys also ship to Dubai? If so how much are the shipping costs? Regards, Justine Answer:
Hello, unfortunately we can not ship Brompton parts outside of the European Union. That is part of our agreement with Brompton. You should be able to get Brompton parts from Hammarain Centre Dubai, Deira, 14069 United Arab Emirates +97142974355 admin@rjmstar.com

Is it possible to have this kit supplied with a decent alternative three speed trigger to the plastic 'rabbit ears' thing. I have a Sachs trigger on another machine. Look forward to hearing from you. Definately intend making the change. Answer:
Depending on your handlebars you could upgrade to the new integrated shifters, if you e-mail us your handlebar type we can let you know what products you would need to order

Does this kit result in higher (faster/ harder) gearing or is it just a more even spread of gears? Answer:
It results in both higher and lower gearing, with a good spread

Are you likely to have this kit in stock again? Answer:
We make this up depending on the bike as there are so many options, if you e-mail us with the age of your bike, current set-up and the handle bar type, we can let you know what to order, a photo would be great

Hello,Will this (or the separate list of parts as this doesn't seem to be in stock) fit a Brompton electric? Or are there more differences between the 2 and 6 speed where the electric model is concerned? What are the warranty implications with Brompton? Thanks Answer:
Good question. We no longer make this kit up due to the number of different options of Bromptons, including the electric now. So we can let you know what parts to order (the 6 speed electric uses a different rear wheel from manual). Can you let us know if you have an H or M type? We can then send you a list of parts. We can’t see the upgrades impacting on the frame or electric warranty, especially if added by a Brompton dealer
